内容简介:Strain and electromechanical coupling are ubiquitous in nature, and exist in many processes involved in information technology, energy conversion, and biological phenomena. Strain-based scanning probe microscopy (s-SPM) techniques, especially piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) and electrochemical strain microscopy (ESM), have emerged as powerful tools to probe and manipulate materials, structures, and systems at the nanoscale. In this talk, we will present the fundamentals of s-SPM and a variety of its operational modes, introduce its applications in scientifically and technologically important functional materials, electrochemical systems, and biological structures, and discuss some of its challenges and potential opportunities. By detecting dynamic strains associated with underlying microscopic processes excited by a scanning probe, high sensitivity and unprecedented spatial resolution can be obtained, especially supported by statistic tools for advanced data analysis, though caution must be exercised to distinguish different microscopic mechanisms, and quantitative interpretation of remains challenging. We expect that s-SPM will continue to provide great insight into functional materials and structures, and will play a valuable role in the emerging field of materiomics.

报告人简介:李江宇教授毕业于清华大学材料科学与工程系,在美国科罗拉多大学获得博士学位,曾在加州大学和加州理工学院从事博士后研究。长期致力于多功能智能材料与结构力学行为研究,共发表SCI论文近200篇,包括Science、Nature Materials、PNAS、PRL等国际顶级期刊,引用逾7000余次。研究成果得到Nature、Science等顶级期刊亮点显示,美国物理学会、材料研究会、和英国皇家化学学会等专业组织专题报道,以及美国NBC电视台、英国BBC广播电台和英国New Scientist杂志等大众传媒特约专访。曾荣获美国机械工程师协会Sia Nemat-Nasser奖章、最佳论文奖、ICCES青年成就奖、以及美国华盛顿大学Bryan T. McMinn讲座教授等荣誉。现担任美国物理联合会Journal of Applied Physics副主编、自然出版集团npj Computational Materials编委、中国硅酸盐学会Journal of Materiomics编委、中力学学会Theoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters编委,和中国科学院Science China – Technological Science青年编委。
